Debian 8.10 and fans

This note is mainly for me. Installed Debian 8.10 on an old G5 dual core.  Windfarm was not letting the fans spin up under load and possibly clamping the cpu frequency. After much googling on duckduckgo, with out any good results, I went cowboy and removed all the windfarm*.ko files from the drivers folder, edited the blacklist file in /etc/modprobe.d/ to blacklist all the drivers I found and then ran a update-initramfs -u -k all - which gave errors, but on reboot, no windfarm loaded! Fan were still quiet. Created a load (dnet), and they spun up. Okay, they don't spin down when the load it removed, but I am fine with that. This is going to be in a server room.
